This morning I purchased Skyrim on Steam for five dollars, but the water details keep glitching and switching tabs makes it hard to return to the game.

I acknowledge the annoyance of the alt-tab. There seems to be a mod addressing many issues Bethesda overlooked.

Switch to Alt+Tab, then select a non-fullscreen option before clicking Skyrim.

Yup. Alt-tab is broken. There's also a weird bug where sometimes after restoring the game from an alt-tab, your normal desktop cursor will be displayed in the center of the screen in addition to the in-game cursor. I generally avoid this by opening the Steam overlay before alt-tabbing. Seems to work for me. As for water textures... I don't know. You have a screen shot?
