Skyrim Bottlenecking?
Yes, VRAM is consumed quickly on a 660 Ti, whether SLI or not, so the GPU is limiting performance. This issue affected my older AMD setup and continues to impact my new machine. I was handling more than 30 mods, mostly graphical ones. Reinstalling games and mods is necessary due to persistent glitches. A fresh graphics card would help. I aim to run at full settings with the same mods on the 980 Ti later this year.
You mentioned you were hoping to receive something at a lower price recently. I’m curious—are you an original character (OC), or are you getting a different version? What’s the performance like with this one, and how does it compare to what you’re expecting? I’d love to hear your thoughts so I can imagine it before I get mine.
You're receiving the EVGA 980 Ti Superclocked ACX 2.0+ version, which is built with factory overclocking enabled.
It’s likely there are other OC 980ti models available that can outperform the Titan X except for EVGA. The main gap between them is the extra 6 GB of VRAM. Still, 6 GB should work well for modding Skyrim without issues. Saving over 300 dollars in speed while using half the VRAM is a solid trade-off since you don’t need the full 12 GB right now.
