I’m unlikely to form many friends right now, but I just played the game for about half an hour and haven’t enjoyed it much yet. I plan to try again this weekend to grasp all the excitement around it. The graphics don’t appeal to me (it’s a 5-year-old title, while others in the same time frame look better). I also don’t like the combat system, especially since I’m only using a sword. I’ve noticed the game struggles with smooth performance on ultra settings on my GTX 750 2GB. I’m probably getting around 20-35 FPS, depending on the situation. Many mods have been made, some improving resource use, but for now I just want to experience the developers’ vision.

Skyrim demands solid hardware to run smoothly, especially at top settings. A strong CPU and a capable GPU are essential for optimal performance, even without the high-resolution texture pack. If you own the high-res version, consider downgrading to the standard edition. I played it before the high-res pack came out and it performed well. My setup was a Phenom II X6 1055t (3.8GHz) with a Radeon HD 5850.

On Steam, you receive a refund if you haven't played for two hours yet

Here’s a clear summary of the recommended approach:
Follow the provided guide as a solid starting point.
The resource includes bug fixes, performance improvements, and mod suggestions to enhance your experience.
Playing through a Bethesda title without modifications can be time-consuming, especially if you're new to the genre.
Be prepared for a significant investment of time if you enjoy it.

Curious. I'm not sure if I'm using the high textures pack. Is it included with the game? Perhaps adjusting the anti-aliasing and other settings could help. Recently, I played for another 30 minutes and the performance improved significantly, suggesting the environments might be a factor.

The urban areas, similar to Markoth, will place the greatest pressure on the system. Venturing into the wild is simpler.

I’m bringing this thread back just to restate everything I’ve mentioned about the game. After giving it another shot, I really fell in love with it and am ready to invest in all the DLCs and Skyrim content.

Works nicely with Unlimited Bookshelves. I display those stones on a shelf or mantle above my fireplace whenever I'm visiting. Also useful for showcasing some of the game's special finds (like the tankard, Torsten's skulls, Saerek's skulls, Pelagius' hip bone, claws, etc.)
