I received a new AsRock Z170 Fatalty gaming K4 with 7.00 BIOS. If I revert the BIOS to 2.60 (or an earlier version), will it still function? I’ve heard that downgrading from the new BIOS to an older one doesn’t work due to microcode issues, but I’m not sure. If it does work, do I really need modded BIOS at all?

The developer will load the complete BIOS chip, and if the Sky Non-K OC functioned in 2.60, it should too. This board is quite powerful. If you own a programmer, you might want to look into a CoffeeMod alternative.

The picture shows sky oc was deleted in version 2.90 and the microcode updated to 0.76, which removes the sky oc feature. Therefore, in version 2.60 it should function again. If it works, you won’t need to modify the BIOS like on other boards such as ASUS or MSI to unlock BCLK OC, since you’ll have the SKY OC enabled.

The developer may switch to the older 0x74 microcode. You don’t have to update yourself in Windows.
