I'll be honest I've built a lot of machine and I can't remember ever looking at a QVL list. Maybe I've just been lucky as I've never had this many problems as you seem to be going through across various threads now. Not to discredit everyone who's been replying but I think the overall situation needs to be taken into account. You're just trying to have a working PC, maybe throw on XMP if you're feeling crazy. All this talk of die manufacturers and Micron vs SK Hynix and E die this B die that.. I mean correct me if I'm wrong here but this has absolutely nothing to do with normal people buying and using RAM in their computer. You'll hear this as "reading the room" or more specifically, "catering to your audience". To a certain degree, a lot of the responses you're getting are as if you're an experienced RAM overclocker the this super technical speak is what you're looking. Is it? Is this helpful? I dunno, you tell me. Additionally, there might be a little hint of overthinking what really should be a simple thing. You buy RAM, it works or it doesn't, if it doesn't you return it and buy something else. (might have oversimplified that for effect) There is nothing special about Crucial specific RAM for your application. People buy all sorts of RAM for these machines all the time and can have minimal to no problems at all. My last two Ryzen systems had *gasp* Corsair RAM and.. I know.. were just fine at their rated speeds (2700x, now 5800x). The argument someone will have is oh, you got lucky, everyone else has problems. Well, in this instance, I'm not the one with the problems. Makes you think. Perspective is important.

@Somerandomtechyboi Hey... the price difference between $75 and $150 for a B550 seems unnecessary. I’m probably going to swap it out either way. If I decide not to, it should work for swapping the H61/i7-2600 in my media NAS if I choose. I just picked the cheapest B450 I thought would fit a 3600X, mainly to confirm the RAM and GPU from the 5900X setup weren’t the issue. Turns out the RAM might be the problem. If I go ahead and swap it, a 3600X with GTX1650 OC and 16GB RAM should be worth around $700 to $900. I actually misdirected you earlier—Guest 5150 and Spark, sorry about that. Maybe I confused this with another thread? It seems the lists differ depending on the Ryzens (Matisse, Vermeer, etc.) I’m guessing it’ll vary. Some boards might be more sensitive than others. I also have two Crucial 3200 kits and the MSI B450M Bazooka’s older version with an 1700 was a bit anxious. I figured the two sticks in the other 1700 rig are showing different speeds, which could signal trouble if it keeps up. Overall, both kits look dual-rank, so it’s possible some boards aren’t compatible with either. It seems the product is available in single-rank and dual-rank versions, which explains why you can’t be sure what you’ll get when you buy it.

The main problem seems to be that people searching for compatibility are focusing on the RAM maker, not the board maker. It's important to remember that this older unit I own has compatibility with two units, but I've experienced issues with it.

Ahh, but the story keeps getting more interesting. If the QVL is solid, it will show the settings it was tested with. You need to trust that the QVL stays accurate and current due to new BIOS updates. Many BIOS updates focus on memory compatibility. But what does that really mean? Well, it’s DDR4 and it fits the standard DDR4 slot. It will start up normally with default settings. Manufacturers prefer you not to turn on XMP and then request a replacement because it doesn’t boot properly initially. And why do you see those warning alerts when you choose to enable XMP or any overclocking options in the BIOS? In theory, all DDR4 RAM works with all DDR4 motherboards, without XMP (DOCP).

I think you missed a word there -- CONSISTENTLY. As in it will run and POST consistently. Which the 3200 Crucial I've been running in my 5900X would not. The GPU has tested fine in another machine, whereas one of these DIMMs will not boot, no way, no how, and the other has made the build act stupid from day one. Now it's experiencing random cutout of audio or sometimes audio / video. But only when gaming, not during MP4 playback. It all points to RAM in my book. And I haven't found those particular sticks on a QVL list yet. I asked someone about the SKU of the older kit I have two sets of. They said the last time they ordered that for a build was for an Intel Coffee Lake or something of the sort. Now, I know it shouldn't matter, but could it be that certain kits are optimized for AMD, certain kits are optimized for Intel, and crossing these up will cause problems? I might have misinterpreted your notes. The RAM in the 5900X performed well within that system, and swapping the GPU and RAM of the same SKU from another machine didn<|pad|>'s decision didn't alter the outcome, leading to an RMA. To prepare for a possible extended return, I assembled an ASRock B450M / 3600X configuration using the same RTX3060ti for testing both RAM and GPU. This setup also acts as a backup in case the board itself was the problem. Although I haven't tried the DIMMs on the 3600X or ASRock B450M, this configuration kept showing an hourglass with one DIMM consistently. It didn't POST when running alone or in tandem, no matter the order. The one it did POST with started cutting out audio or both audio and video, but only during gameplay—not when playing MP4 files. This suggests the RAM might be the issue, as the board reported a "Could not duplicate issue" a few days back. It seems the GPU is behaving erratically, regardless of what it's doing.

This isn't a groundbreaking change, back when overclockers exchanged tips to find the optimal BIOS update. And when you can tweak the BIOS settings, which used to be possible before encryption made it impossible. Looking at AsRock, I don't appreciate their motherboards much. It's hard to believe their performance on entry-level boards hasn't improved since a decade ago. My Asus B450M-A handled memory overclocking on the second generation well. Even with SK Hynix, it could run at 13 MHz, but I think it was closer to 2933 MHz versus 3200 MHz. It still offered good latency despite the slower speed. The 3000 MHz memory clock wasn't something I found Ryzen systems particularly fond of.
