Initially, I learned that purchasing a genuine Sims 3 disc includes an origin CD code. This should let the game run without needing the disc at all. If you don’t have a box, it might be more convenient to get it through Origin rather than Steam.

You could possibly play Sims 3 without the CD by using the key to enable it, or just download it. If you don’t have a box, try Origin instead.

I'm unsure about the retail box's key or code functionality, but it seems any setup should be local. Get it from the store with the lowest prices.

Purchase from Steam or Origin ensures the shortcut starts the client. I’m not very familiar with setting it up from a physical box or disc, but I think it’s possible.

Out of Origin and Steam, which would face fewer issues? For a gift to someone unlikely to use Origin or Steam much, Steam seems more practical.

I choose Steam mainly since I don’t like the experience of shutting down my PC at night, which always shows that message. I exit Origin after use but don’t log out—just a bit frustrating.

I’d choose Origin since there’s no online purchase option and it’s less popular. Supporting the underdog sparks rivalry. When businesses vie for our attention, we gain an edge.
