I have a Windows 10 Pro laptop in my car for navigation and music streaming. I connect it to a phone hotspot when on the move, but I'm careful about staying within the 0.5GB limit. At home I use my own network without restrictions, and I switch to public Wi-Fi when available. Sometimes apps consume more data than expected, making it hard to justify a bigger plan. My main concern is preventing other programs from using the internet unnecessarily. Do you have any ideas on how to restrict app usage or adjust filters for different networks? Thank you!

In addition to the metered connections setting in Windows, you can access the firewall settings and disable all connections except for the applications you wish to allow, saving this configuration as a profile.

I'm having trouble locating the necessary paths for those built-in Windows apps, even though I think they should work on a metered connection. Do you know of any third-party tools that could help with this?

That's a question! Can you clarify what you're asking about?

Enable the firewall, assign a specific zone for the restricted Wi-Fi network. By default, block all traffic in that zone. Create an exception for the applications you wish to allow.

Please clarify your steps once the firewall is active. Identify the interface or section where you select the zone for limited Wi-Fi, then locate the option to create a custom rule. After defining the rule, find the appropriate settings to allow exceptions for the applications you need. Let me know if you'd like more detailed guidance!
