I'm looking for routers with simple built-in VPN features. This would help a friend's parents who are far away and only visit briefly. Having the setup done through a router makes things smoother and avoids complicated changes. Brands like Linksys and Asus offer routers that can connect to services like ExpressVPN, but do any of them provide this without purchasing another service? Anyone have recommendations?

Asus routers support an OpenVPN solution. Your friend just needs to enable it, fetch the configuration file, and install it on a compatible client. Or they could update their router with DD-WRT and follow the same steps.

The process won’t become any easier than activating a service, saving a configuration file, and setting up a client.
