I'll reply to @Archangel1994 mentioning Gimp 2.8 as well. Otherwise, I think Paint.NET would be a good alternative, not to be mixed up with standard MS Paint. Gimp's website is http://www.gimp.org/

Squarespace isn't suitable for logos, Gimp, Paint.NET, or MS Paint. You should visit their site and enter the offer code—remember, they don’t handle logo creation there. It’s meant for building websites.
