Vanilla Ubuntu already comes with a desktop setup. It's using GNOME unless you've altered it. The wholesomeisland likely meant switching to a different desktop environment or installing a specific desktop via the command line with apt, probably because you're comfortable with the terminal.

An alternative DE affects only the visuals, not the underlying structure. It doesn’t alter the UI framework, just changes how it looks. Installing the Kylin version (UKUI) won’t impact the core design or functionality.

Each system offers its own distinct method for displaying the taskbar, start menu, and other interfaces. You're free to install any desktop environment on any distribution. With several DEs installed, you can select which one to launch when you start up.

Are you referring to adding an icon for it on your desktop? That would be straightforward. You can right-click anywhere and choose Panel/Task Bar or Desktop. If not, perhaps something like Mint doesn’t support that feature easily.
