Simple and basic questions about Ethernet for beginners
I previously had a Mac with built-in Wi-Fi. After building my PC, I noticed it lacks wireless connectivity. My router is about 20 meters away, and I can’t close the door if there’s a cable running through it. The issue is whether using a Wi-Fi adapter (PCIe 1x slot) would allow me to connect to the existing Wi-Fi network. If it works, would the setup prompt for my router password during login? For gaming performance, what speed would be ideal? And how much should I expect to spend on such an adapter?
It depends on the setup—wireless devices often use different ports, and "ports: gigabit ethernet" indicates a wired connection. The presence of a port doesn’t necessarily mean it’s wired; it could be for compatibility or future upgrades.
You can try downloading the necessary drivers from the manufacturer's official website. If you don't have an optical drive, look for alternative installation methods or community forums for similar devices.
With Windows 10 it usually installs without issues. If not, search for your device online to locate the appropriate driver.
