I tried it too—it's still broken. The second mission had the AI built to ten times my size, but I couldn't make any progress in three hours. There were so many settlements, houses everywhere, and farms beyond what I could see on my screen. They could easily take me down a group of 40, but they would rebuild faster than I could destroy them. I returned it and received a refund.
Also checking out Act of War: Direct Action. Critics note Steam isn't compatible with Windows 10 yet, so consider purchasing the GOG edition instead:

I discovered my previous version of Sins of a Solar Empire, getting back into the game. Absolutely, it remains an enjoyable title and performs noticeably better compared to my older systems!
We should remember the importance of LOTR: BFME II, even though it's hard to find.
I enjoyed the C&C series (except for the games after 'Generals').
