Computer model: Desktop GPU RX 6750XT CPU RYZEN 5 5600 6 cores 12 threads Motherboard Biostar B550MX/E PRO BIOS Version B55DS919.BSS (latest) RAM 32GB Kingston 3200MHz 4x8 PSU MSI MAG A650BN 650W 80 plus bronze Case Corsair 220T Operating System & Version Windows 11 HOME 23H2 GPU Drivers AMD Adrenalin 24.1.1 Chipset Drivers AMD B550 CHIPSET DRIVERS VERSION 6.01.25.342 (latest) Background apps: G hub, iCUE, Firefox Description of the issue: Unexpected drops in core clock during gameplay. Clock shifts from 4.4GHz to 500MHz or lower, sometimes below 1GHz, consistently throughout. These fluctuations are abrupt and often occur without warning. They severely impact gameplay by triggering frame drops and cutting audio. They also led to GPU driver timeouts and even caused the system to shut down. Troubleshooting steps: The problem first appeared after building the PC, then resumed after a BIOS update. Reverting to the older BIOS version resolved it temporarily. Updating chipset drivers helped briefly but didn’t fix the matter. Disabling PBO and eco mode (45W) provided some relief. Turning off ULPs didn’t work. After reaching out to AMD and Biostar support, they suggested various fixes that failed. The most effective solution found was setting the CPU to a fixed clock frequency, allowing continued use but causing crashes when launching games. Is this processor or motherboard faulty? I’ve heard mixed experiences with Biostar products. Are there any workarounds I should try? At this stage, I’m only trying to determine if the issue lies with the processor or the motherboard, since I plan to purchase a new one. Thanks ahead!
