The initial test using Samsung Magician on my 1TB Samsung 870 QVO SSD showed strong performance, with 549MB/s read and 505MB/s write. After installing the new SSD and cloning the OS, around 600-700GB of data moved successfully. The previous HDD was removed, leaving only this SSD connected. Today’s run shows a minor drop in read speed and a significant decrease in write speed, while random reads remain unchanged. Notably, random writes stayed consistent. Since upgrading from the GT 710 to the RTX 2070 Super and adding a new storage device, I added a 2TB WD Blue HDD. I attempted to test without the larger drive, but results were identical. Could the new GPU be affecting write speeds? What steps can help restore performance? System Info Dell OptiPlex 7010 Intel Core i7-3770 3.4 GHz, 8GB DDR3 (2x4GB) at 1600 MHz, RAM Zotac RTX 2070 Super Mini, Windows 10 Pro 22H2. Thanks in advance for any advice.

SSD performance drops noticeably when nearly full, particularly if TRIM is turned off or hasn't been applied recently. Use Disk Cleanup (the built-in Windows utility), then proceed to Disk Defragmentation to optimize the drive. Re-test.

This behavior is typical for QLC drives. Running it idle for a few hours should clear the write cache.

It will slow down similarly, but because you're not repeatedly copying files, using QLC as your boot drive remains unaffected.

Enabling "full performance mode" didn’t improve speeds beyond SATA 3.0 capabilities, indicating possible misleading benchmark data. The actual performance gain depends on the SATA interface limiting the SSD, so inflated numbers likely don’t translate to real benefits. Running the tests now reveals this discrepancy. You should stick with standard mode unless you want to risk damaging your SSD, especially since it’s the boot drive.
