A few days back, my laptop faced an unexpected power cut during a restart. Since the battery isn’t working, I’m using the power adapter exclusively. The interruption happened right before Windows completed booting, causing it to enter recovery mode. Once Windows finally started, it appeared to work fine, but the problem continues: every shutdown, hibernation, or sleep cycle causes it to shut down instantly and then restart after a couple of seconds.

I’ve tried common solutions like turning off Fast Startup, enabling hibernation, and adjusting page files. I also updated the BIOS and Intel drivers, ran scandisk, and even reinstalled Windows due to suspected file corruption. The issue still exists.

Could this be a hardware problem? What should I do next to figure it out?

Welcome to the forums, newcomer!
What is your laptop's make, model, and SKU?
Since the battery isn't working, I'm using the power adapter completely.
A recurring problem keeps appearing: every time I shut down, hibernate, or put the laptop to sleep, it powers off instantly and then restarts after a couple of seconds.
You might want to think about getting a real battery for your laptop, unless it's just an inexpensive device in your home.
Is this likely a hardware problem, and what should you do next to figure it out?
If the power delivery area on your motherboard is damaged, it could be fixed, but you'd need to test it with a multimeter.
If the BIOS chip is faulty, replacing it with the correct one for your laptop's board might restore normal operation.
I just reinstalled Windows.
To be clear, did you reinstall the operating system in offline mode, connecting all drives except the one you're installing on? Is this a full reset?
You mention the problem is persistent—how long has it been happening with your laptop?

It's an HP Spectre x360 15-bl1xx with SKU 1VW22AV. I carried out a clean Windows 11 installation using an offline ISO from Microsoft instead of the built-in tool. I neglected to format the installation partition beforehand, but I’m confident it won’t affect the process. The problem started a few days ago after a power outage and continues even after reinstalling Windows. My battery has been non-functional for a long time, so I’ve been using only the power adapter.

I believe the RAM might be failing, so consider replacing it or using a MemTest86 boot disk. Alternatively, check the power supply for any issues.

Windows sets up to restart automatically when a 'system failure' happens. It seems like a system issue is happening during sleep/hibernate/shutdown. This might be due to a problem during closing operations. I recommend trying to stop open apps one by one to identify the cause. It could also be a device driver failing while closing, which is more difficult to trace.

And it is recommended to also examine Reliability History/Monitor and Event Viewer.
One or both of these tools might record a relevant error code, warning, or informational message shortly before or during the mentioned failures.

My problem has changed. Shutdown and hibernate now work properly, but sleep mode now leads to an unexpected system crash. Also, the PC restarts itself every 2–3 seconds after any power action (shutdown, hibernate, sleep). Even though I updated the BIOS to version F.43, I think there might be a BIOS issue. I haven’t run Memtest yet, but the system remains stable during normal use and there are no BSODs, indicating the RAM is fine. The problem continues even after a fresh boot with nothing open, so closing individual apps won’t help because many background processes stay active and can’t be stopped manually. I’ve also looked in the Event Viewer, but it only shows a general 'unexpected shutdown' error.

The RAM test and power supply testing have shown certain findings.
