Shut Down Problem

After updating things on Tuesday, my computer shows a blank screen when I turn it off, yet the lights don't go out. It's still on because of that. I need to use the power button to shut it down properly instead of just clicking off.

Try doing a system restore before the update hits. See if it turns your shutdown back on. Also, check if anything shows up as yellow in Device Manager right now.

That's why I wanted to know what it was. The KB number could tell me for sure. I'm pretty sure a system restore won't fix this because it clears everything out.

This might just be a process that doesn't turn off completely, which makes Windows stay on. So next time you need to shut down, open an elevated command prompt and type this: shutdown /s /f /t 0 The switches tell the command to force all running things to close (/s) and shut it down now (/t 0). Does that actually shut everything off?
