Just a single cable connects the PSU to the motherboard's 8-pin input. It's an 8-pin to 8-pin setup. I wasn't aware of this before. I'm planning to install my 970 in the empty video card slot and will check the results later.
I thought it was an 8-pin setup but it’s actually a 24-pin. Sorry for the mix-up—I ended up spending eight hours browsing forums and it really took its toll.
You need the 8 Pin EPS port for the CPU, the 24 pin ATX port, plus extra power cables for graphics cards or SATA devices.
I gave it a try. The LED no longer lit up near the 4-pin connector. However, I can't power on the PSU or motherboard by connecting the PWRSW pins.
Completed, but it won't start. I've tested various power supplies too.
The only red LED is the one explicitly labeled as red in the list.
