Shows nothing during 1440P full screen gaming session
Hello, I recently purchased a new PC and am facing issues with full-screen gaming. When playing intense games or using 3Dmark at higher resolutions, the TV suddenly reports a missing signal. Pressing Alt-Tab or the Windows key restores the display, but the problem resurfaces when returning to the game. With less demanding titles, it seems to function properly at 1080p full screen even on a 4K 120Hz display. I bought the 4K monitor for a specific reason, so this might be the root cause. My HDMI cable is outdated and isn’t HDMI 2.1, but it hasn’t caused issues before on my old system. I’ve also noticed the game continues running while the signal drops, allowing me to interact with it normally—like clicking, hearing audio, and seeing a preview on the taskbar. I’ve tried updating drivers, cleaning Windows, checking cable connections to the right HDMI ports, using G-sync, disabling variable refresh rate, and even switching to lower refresh rates. My system specs are: AMD 7800X3D, Nvidia RTX 4080, Asrock A620I, 32GB RAM, Corsair Vengeance at 6000Hz, Cooler Master V SFX Gold ATX 3.0, and a 850W PSU. The TV is a TCL 55C745. I’m hoping someone can assist, as being stuck in full screen mode prevents me from enjoying the games.
My TV supports 4K, but I’m happy with 1440p thanks to the cable limitations. For non-gaming tasks, I use my PC at 1440p. When playing games, I switch to 1080P.
I operate at 120Hz, but as you mentioned, windowed games seem to work fine, whereas full screen games don’t. A HDMI 2.1 connection is already in progress, but it’s confusing because it worked with my old setup at 1440p 120Hz and sometimes with lower-end titles.
It appears the updated cable resolved the issue. However, I still don’t grasp why it stopped functioning after installing my new PC, as it worked before with the old one. It seems to refuse full-screen games and even 4K video playback. Despite the confusion, I’m glad to finally enjoy my setup. Thanks for your help!
