I've never seen Windows assume a monitor existed when it didn't. That's intriguing. It seems DP passthrough or PIP might be creating the illusion, but this display doesn't allow them to work. You could likely choose the ghost monitor and tell it not to show on that one, but I'm curious about what Windows believed it was. Would 11 still have Advanced Display Settings showing anything?

I once had two monitors, then I lost one and swapped it in, but I haven't used them anymore. Everything is functioning properly now.

The screen didn’t recognize its display type, showed a blank 0x0 image, and reported a 60Hz refresh rate. When you attempted to adjust the refresh rate via the dropdown, it unexpectedly reset to 0Hz.

It's quite unusual, hasn't it? I've never come across anything like this before.

Hey, it was a risky move, I didn't really expect to succeed right away.

When it occurs again, capture the screen. Even if fixes aren't found, this indicates a major issue with Windows. If SFC, DISM, and reboots fail, consider a full installation.

They provide a clear overview of their purpose and functionality. A minor error was noted in the original text regarding the acronym: "Deployment Image Serviving" should be corrected to "Deployment Image Servicing and Management." The resource also explains how they operate.
