Facing an unusual problem with my monitors, I'm struggling to understand what's happening. Every time I connect a new monitor or adjust settings like position, refresh rate, or resolution, I encounter one of three outcomes. Usually, the device attempts to update its properties and then crashes until it restarts. Sometimes it changes settings but freezes on a black screen for 5–15 seconds before switching again. After replacing my CPU, PSU, and GPU, the issue persisted with the older components too. I haven't noticed this before or after swapping the power supply. I also ran a clean Windows installation after installing new hardware. Here are my specs: OS – Windows 11 23h2; CPU – 9950x3D (previous chip was 7900x); GPU – PNY RTX 5080 (old card was 3070 Ti); PSU – CORSAIR RMx Shift Series RM1200x (previous was RMx 1000W); MMO – MSI MPG X670E Carbon WIFI; RAM – G.SKILL Trident Z5 Neo Series 64GB (2×32GB); Storage – WD_BLACK SN770 NVMe SSD 2TB (firmware 731130WD) plus a Samsung 980 500GB SSD (upcoming update). Any advice would be helpful, except for the monitor replacements. I also experience brief pauses—3 to 5 seconds when logging in and about 30 seconds after login—sometimes the context menu freezes and the explorer stalls for up to half a minute. This seems inconsistent and hard to replicate. The recent drive firmware update from WD seems to have fixed it, even though I did a clean install.
