Planning to try my first hands-on overclocking tonight on my i75820K. I think it would make sense to begin by shutting down OC Genie to initiate the manual steps, though I haven’t found clear instructions online about doing so.

It's not possible to overclock without disabling OC Genie. You can disable it by shutting down your PC and removing the battery from your motherboard. Once you wait a couple of minutes or less, you can reinstall it and restart the system. Before doing this, remove MSI Command Center as it might reactivate it. After rebooting, you should be able to install it again.
