Should the GPU power cable be extremely difficult to connect to the PSU?
Hello.
Today I upgraded the GPU for the first time and had to replace the power cable. I used an ASUS TUF 850W PSU and connected the 12-pin cable. It was quite challenging to fit it fully, as there was limited space for my fingers to reach the PSU input.
I wanted to ask if I pushed too hard and caused concern about the internal components inside the PSU that hold the connector. Are they very sturdy and able to withstand a lot of force, or are they delicate? It’s hard to explain, but I had to apply a lot of pressure to get it in properly—it felt far from normal.
On the GPU side, I experienced some resistance and it felt a bit stiff, but not enough to worry about breaking it. Compared to the GPU side, the PSU side was significantly harder to pull.
I’m new to building PCs and don’t have much mechanical experience, but I’m reaching out for advice from the experienced builders here.
🙂
Cheers 😊
Ensure the cable is completely seated in both the PSU end and the GPU end, as this helps prevent issues like melted connectors. Reviewers often mention that this is the reason for such problems.
It shows the full connection clearly after taking pictures and zooming in to verify. The process feels more like a thread where I was concerned about using too much force during the connection to the PSU. I noted around four times the force required compared to what I felt on the GPU side, which was tight but not overly uncomfortable. Connecting directly to the power supply gave me a stronger sensation, leaving me with a bad feeling after applying so much pressure.
