I'm considering assembling a setup and want a Ryzen 5 3600. I heard AMD will release a new processor (4th gen) in 2020 with a different socket. If I plan to upgrade later, I might need a new motherboard. Is this accurate? Should I wait for the next 4th gen CPUs or purchase the 3600 now? Because if I buy it now and decide to upgrade after two years due to new sockets in the 4th gen, I'd also need a new board. Edit: Sorry, I'm just starting out. My real concern is whether I should wait for the upcoming 4th gen Ryzen or get the 3600 immediately.

2020 marks the final year for am4. The generation unlikely to back am4 will emerge in 2021, so it's best to act now.

I see your perspective clearly. Would you like to take advantage of this offer right away? A budget tailored for the next 2-3 years could help you stay on track. If you agree to any of these options, proceed immediately.

It seems Zen 3 is expected to be built on a 7nm process, but I believed it would be a different generation not arriving for several years.

It looks like you just made a minor change to your first update. Everything seems clear now. Let me know if you need further assistance!

Tomorrow you'll receive an update. The following year you'll install a new chipset and memory. If you have time, wait two years. If you need it immediately, purchase it right away. I only upgrade when I can't anymore enjoy what I like.

I'm actually constructing a fresh PC, not replacing an old one. That's why I brought this up.

Are you sure you don’t need a PC in the coming two years? If not, hold off. If you want one soon, purchase it now. It’s better to get the latest CPU and motherboard within the next two years—they’re available soon. Holding off for next year feels unnecessary, especially since you can buy the current model at a lower price when the upgrade arrives.

The idea of a 2-year generation was not about CPUs arriving in March 2020, but rather about the release timeline for new processor generations.

Plan the growth with precision—don’t let expectations mislead. Invest in a ray tracing GPU.
