Today I checked my task bar and noticed the option to install Windows 10 (currently on Windows 8.1 64bit). I was thinking about updating it but decided to ask first. First, I’m a gamer and need everything to run smoothly. I’m also concerned about drivers for my GPU, keyboard, and mouse. I read somewhere that some games don’t perform well on Windows 10, even though I’m okay with the specs for Witcher 3. My system has a Core i5 4690K, GTX 980, an ASUS Strix 1TB hard drive plus 128GB SSD, and peripherals like Razer Black Widow 2014, Razer Death Adder 2013, and Razer Kraken 7.1 Surround.

If you don't act right away, you'll eventually face when Windows stops supporting 7 and 8.

The icon in the taskbar isn't an upgrade—it's just a placeholder until Windows 10 officially launches in July... so, yeah

It mentions it's available for a short period, but it doesn't specify compatibility with Windows 10.

You can only receive the Windows 10 Technical Preview if you install it immediately. The final version isn't ready yet, so it's up to you whether you want the completed release or wait for the officially launched build.

Consider your needs and the benefits of the upgrade before deciding.

It doesn't affect your PC at the moment, and once Win10 releases it will appear during the "windows update" process, you won't lose anything.

It's ultimately your choice. I’d prefer to wait until the official release. I’m not sure why, but I just don’t like trying beta versions on games or anything that hasn’t been officially launched yet. You’ll have to do that eventually (like when Microsoft stopped updating for Windows XP), but honestly, I wouldn’t be doing it now.

The limited period applies for a specific duration. You plan to purchase 8.1 in June, but you should confirm whether Windows 10 remains free after that timeframe.
