Should I think about switching this Gigabyte power supply?
Should I think about switching this Gigabyte power supply?
Back in August 2021 I bought an SI prebuilt because that was the only option to get a GPU. It comes with a Gigabyte GP-P750GM PSU (the powerful one) that powers a 3060Ti and a 5600X. The system has been running without problems for almost two years, so I’m unsure if this unit is reliable. Also, since I’m not from the US and live in Eastern Europe, I’m considering whether to replace the PSU just in case.

. Were it me in your situation, I would reach out to Gigabyte (or the retailer, if that's how it works in your country) and see if the voluntary recall will still be honored. Is your existing PSU safe? I can't be certain, but if I had to guess, probably it is since a R5 5600X and RTX 3060 Ti would come nowhere near the peak wattage exceeding the intended usage range, and thereby triggering OPP in the 120% to 150% range.
However
, I take power supplies very seriously... especially in the rigs of my own, my family and my friends. Therefore, no way in the world would I keep such a unit in my rig. If I were in your situation, I would absolutely swap out the PSU to a different brand / model. The power supply is the very last component that I would compromise in my own gaming rig.

: gigabyte gp-p750gm recall
I attempted to contact a third party, which is essentially a store like Newegg, offering prebuilt computer components. They didn’t realize we were dealing with Gigabyte PSUs and asked if my unit was functioning properly. I explained that it works but might be unsafe. They mentioned they couldn’t provide a replacement if it fails and that warranty would cover the issue if it stops working. They also warned that swapping it myself would void the whole PC’s warranty, which is quite strict in this region compared to the US or Europe. Now that the warranty has expired, I’m not protected if something goes wrong. I shared my location in case these parts weren’t affected, but I’m seriously considering a replacement now. Thanks!
