Should I take a chance on this one?
So when New World came out, I had some friends who wanted to play it together. I heard a story about how people's graphics cards got broken during the beta because of New World but that got fixed right after launch. On my actual launch day, I played all day without any problems. But the next morning, just like trying to start the game, my GPU started breaking instantly when I hit power on boot. I had an EVGA GeForce RTX 3080 XC3 BLACK. Later, EVGA came out and said some of their GPUs had bad soldering connections. My PC seller gave me a replacement for that card and told me it was fixed now. They promised the problem was solved so I thought I could safely put this new one in and keep playing my games. Well, I was wrong. The same thing happened right when I tried to launch the game again. Maybe I should have known better not to try restarting it after that but I really wanted to hang out with my friends. So now we're back here a while later with some of those old friends wanting to get back in and play once more. I am scared because things happened before. Is there still any big risk? Do my computer specs make me more likely to have this happen again? My PC Specs include: Motherboard-Gigabyte A520M DS3H, CPU-Ryzen 5 5600X, RAM-32GB DDR4 3200MHz CORSAIR VENGEANCE RGB PRO, GPU-MSI RTX 3080 GAMING Z TRIO LHR, and Power Supply-EVGA 850W Gold.
It wasn't the game itself, it was a bad batch of graphics cards from brands like EVGA and Gigabyte. Is New World still breaking GPUs? Yes, New World is Amazon Games' big MMO with cool pictures and forced-to-play rules. But back when they started testing it, some guides said you could have an unlimited high frame rate by default. Amazon Games says the game is safe to play even though reports say a few 3090 cards are breaking while playing the beta. They also issued a statement to GamesRadar+ in response to these reports. If you want advice on a specific card model, I would suggest asking the MSI forums because it is more likely someone with that exact card posted there than anyone else. I can't say for sure if this problem is fixed yet. I don't see any other brands besides Gigabyte and EVGA mentioned in the failing reports though.
