I believe purchasing a more powerful CPU might not be the best use of your resources. How do you think a stronger processor would affect performance?
The only reason I considered upgrading was because I’m still at 1700 and want to keep using it for the next 2-3 years. The 1700 processor is still available, and the 3080 Ti has been working well so far. I believe it will perform similarly in the next 1-2 years, which would allow me to get a RTX 6080 later. However, recently I noticed that even with Chrome open while doing office tasks, my CPU usage reaches 100% and the PC lags by 1-2 seconds. This made me think an upgrade could improve the experience. I’m not fully convinced yet, but I might look into options.
I am considering staying on LGA 1700 for a longer period, at least the next 2-3 years. At least 13700 might suit me well. I haven’t found any reviews showing how much power 13700 Non K draws, especially with its 65 watt TDP. I know it’s a powerful unit and challenging to cool, as I already have a 240mm liquid freezer. I’ll also consider that 13600k is usually around 80-100 watts in games.
Following the recent video by jayztwocents about his personal 14900k, I recommend steering clear of the 14th generation. He operated at voltages well below what was thought to trigger degradation, yet his chip still failed. He also hinted that Intel would soon release another supposed solution. For now, I’d suggest opting for a 12700k and consider it satisfactory.
