My ten-year-old nephew desires a gaming PC. I recently acquired a new one and was thinking of gifting him my existing system, which is roughly five years old. It functions adequately, though it frequently experiences slow loading times or initial lag during games like Fortnite and Black Ops. We’re open to investing funds if it will provide several years of service. We prefer to upgrade an existing machine rather than purchase a brand-new one.

Here are the system specifications:
Processor: Intel Core i7 3820
Motherboard: MSI X79A-GD45 Plus
Memory: 16GB Quad DDR3
Graphics Card: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1070
Power Supply: 800w PSU
Hard Drive: Unknown – it’s a traditional HDD and potentially failing.
Purchase Timeframe: Recent
Price Range: Approximately $200 for enhancements or $600-$800 for a new system.
Primary Use: Gaming is the main focus.
Monitor Purchase: Not applicable
Upgrade Components: Undetermined
Operating System Needed: Not required
Preferred Retailers: Preference does not exist
Location: Detroit, Michigan
Specific Part Needs: None
Overclocking Potential: Possibly
Multi-GPU Configuration: Possibly
Current Monitor Resolution: 1920x1080
Additional Notes:
Most Crucial Reason for Upgrading: To satisfy my nephew’s request.

Rejuvenating an older computer often involves a complete reinstall of Windows. You’ll likely notice significant improvements in loading times and sluggishness. Investing around $80 in a 500GB SSD (like the Samsung 860 Evo) will revitalize it, and it will also remove concerns about your hard drive potentially failing within a few years.

As Matt suggested, installing a fresh copy of the software and switching to a solid-state drive is a worthwhile improvement; otherwise, neither $200 nor $800 will procure anything substantial in a new computer construction.
