Should I overclock?
Should I overclock?
Hello everyone!
My PC:
ASUS TUF Gaming Plus Z490
I5 10600K
Noctua NH-U12S
HyperX Fury 2X8GB 2400Mhz
Asus Gaming GTX 1080 Ti
FSP Aurum Gold 700w
Antec NX600 case
My PC is just for gaming, mainly playing Modern Warfare. I'm experiencing a GPU bottleneck (GPU at 100% while CPU doesn't exceed 90%).
Do you think it's worth trying to optimize my RAM or CPU? Or maybe try optimizing my GPU?
Thanks.
Not every game (except very few) relies on all 12 threads at the same time. If 2 or 3 threads drop to 85-90% usage, overall CPU consumption will decrease by 7-10%. As mentioned earlier, you don't want your CPU constantly at 100%, as that could indicate a bottleneck. You definitely don't have one, and it's not something you should ever encounter with this processor. It's not feasible to achieve full CPU or full GPU usage at the same time without intentionally pushing the system through stress tests. Your setup is functioning properly as it stands.
It should be, have you tried:
Access the BIOS, go to the Ai Tweaker area (or use F7 as a shortcut). In the Ai Overclock Tuner, locate the XMP option and select a profile to activate. Once you ensure these are the desired settings, press F7 to close Ai Tweaker and F10 to save and restart your PC so the XMP configurations apply.
The presence of a K CPU in the 10600K makes it ideal for overclocking. You should definitely consider boosting it. The 10600K is designed for this purpose, allowing you to easily achieve a stable multi-core speed of around 5GHz with only small adjustments—like setting the multiplier to 50 and keeping the Vcore at 1.3v or slightly lower. In short, it’s definitely worth exploring overclocking.
On the GPU front, using MSI afterburner can provide a noticeable improvement by increasing core performance and memory speed. There are numerous guides available for overclocking the 1080Ti.
For RAM, a modest adjustment might be sufficient, but focus more on the CPU and GPU first.
You don’t want the cpu at 100%. There is no problem to fix and you are getting full utilisation of your gpu.
