Should I invest in more memory or a different display for my computer setup? What are your opinions and recommendations?
For several months, my aim has been to prepare my computer system for playing Metro Exodus and other games at the highest possible visual quality. I’m nearly complete with this endeavor, aside from two key components: sufficient memory and a new, high-quality display. I’m seeking advice on which to prioritize acquiring first, considering that I am currently unemployed and cannot afford both immediately. My preference is either RAM or the monitor, with a decision to be made regarding the other at a later time.
My initial inclination is towards a new monitor, with a resolution of 2560x1440. My existing display is an older 1920x1080 model operating at a refresh rate of 60Hz. While a new monitor would significantly enhance the visual fidelity of numerous games, it represents a more substantial investment and I’m concerned about my existing RAM capacity.
Alternatively, upgrading the RAM would be a viable option. I currently have 8GB of DDR4 at 2800MHz, but I frequently encounter brief periods of slowdown or freezing due to RAM limitations. Upgrading to Corsair Vengeance LPX 16GB at 3000MHz would address this issue.
Here are my current hardware specifications for context:
GPU: EVGA RTX 2070 XC ULTRA
CPU: i7 6700 (3.40GHz)
Mobo: MSi Z270 SLI
RAM: 8GB DDR4 2800MHz (XPG ADATA, white color)
PSU: EVGA SuperNOVA 650 G+
Storage: Two 500GB Samsung SSDs and a 2TB Hybrid SSHD
Increase the Random Access Memory. It's probably unlikely that 8 gigabytes will suffice for optimal performance with advanced configurations.
