Should I invest in a 14th generation Intel PC?
Should I invest in a 14th generation Intel PC?
I’m looking into the possibility of assembling a brand new 14th generation Intel PC from the ground up. The cost isn’t a concern for me at the moment.
Here are the details of my current setup:
Motherboard – MSI Z390 Gaming Pro Carbon
CPU – I9 9900K
CPU Cooler – NZXT Kraken x63
GPU – EVGA RTX 2080 Super
RAM – 32GB DDR4 G.Skill Trident Z 3200
I primarily use my system for gaming at 2K and a lot of VR, though I’m planning to upgrade to 4K.
Some titles I play are Call Of Duty, Arma, Cyberpunk, and Pavlov VR.
I’m thinking about upgrading to the I9 14900K when it comes out, paired with a 4090 and fast DDR5 RAM, so I can enjoy 4K gaming.
Others have mentioned that switching to the LGA 1700 socket would be risky since it’s nearing the end of its life. They suggest waiting until the 15th generation instead.
I’d appreciate any advice on whether upgrading now would help or if it’s better to wait a year until the next generation.
Thanks in advance for your response.
When discussing a move to 14th Gen Intel, it’s important to keep your PSU, case, and storage choices intact. If that’s the case, please note these details in your specifications. Regarding your upgrade, what financial range are you planning to work with? I’d recommend considering a budget for a new build if you’re focusing on 4K content use or creation.
Sorry for the missing details, I'm planning a complete overhaul of the system. The budget isn't fixed, and I'm flexible with the choices.
The thing about waiting for the next thing, is you are always waiting. 15th gen desktop is at least a year out.
Not a terrible system. For 4K you could just try upgrading the GPU and PSU and see how it goes, than maybe waiting out the next CPU release might make more sense.
There is some value in getting an AM5 system now and then just upgrading the CPU as AMD releases new ones. With 14th gen, you would be getting the last CPU for the socket.
Just depends how often you feel the need to upgrade. 9th to 14th gen is a decent jump, and Intel will probably be onto the NEXT socket if you stick with that upgrade cadence. AM5 might have 3 or 4 generations in it as well.
