Should I install x86 alongside x64 software for compatibility? Java, Visual C++, etc.
Hello! I've spent many years in the computer world. I recall when CPU architecture changed and things got chaotic. Even with a 64-bit CPU, I needed Java x86 and x64 for certain games and software to function. It also happened with Visual C++ Redistributable. I still test new software, do AI and gaming a lot, and since those days I download all Java, Visual and Framework packages in both X86 and X64. Should I be installing both or have I been installing x86 without purpose all these years?
In short, there are still programs that rely on the x86 version. It's generally preferable to have it installed to prevent any future complications. Especially with Vial, which had problems in both versions a lot. Also, running x86 for current software that only uses x64 could cause issues.
