Hey there, need some guidance. I've been using an R5 3600 since launch, but I wanted a R9 3900X which was hard to find for a while. I'm running an i7 2600K at 4.8GHz with an ASRock Z77 Fatality Pro-M + two 8GB Kingston DDR3 1866MHz kits and a 1080TI on a 4K screen. Right now I have a Gigabyte X570 Aorus Elite, Ryzen 5 3600, and a GSKILL 3600MHz CL14 with 2x8GB RAM. The R9 3950X is in stock locally but costs around 790 euros... I'm thinking about upgrading to the R9 3950X. It's expensive, but I've noticed AMD prices are dropping, so maybe it'll get cheaper soon. I mostly edit photos and sometimes videos, and my games don't really rely on that CPU. Also, seeing AMD's price cuts, I worry it might not drop much at all. Should I go for it now or wait? It could happen either way. I'm editing with Lightroom and Premerie Pro for videos, thanks for any thoughts!

1st option: wait for Ryzen 4000 (late next year) and upgrade then 2nd option: upgrade now to Ryzen 7 3700X or 3800X, eventually the 3900x 3rd option:keep what you have till you see a used Ryzen with more cores that would suit your needs (in 2-3 years)

I wouldn't upgrade unless you truly believe the processor is limiting you. Based on what you've said, it seems like this isn't the issue, so I'd hold off. One thing is certain—it won't be more costly in a couple of years, so if it's not essential, don't purchase it right now.

Do you believe the Ryzen 4000 fits with your current X570? Even after nearly six months using the R5 3600, I still have the chance to exchange it since I know someone at the store where I bought it, so I could get a different CPU if needed.

The Ryzen 4000 should be the final AM4 compatible lineup, as stated by AMD. I’m hoping it will also support the X470. You can obtain two additional cores by choosing an R7 3700X and later switching to Zen 3 (Ryzen 4000) in a few years if you really want more performance.
