For now, we'll upgrade next month to version 10. It seems promising.

Choose the more affordable option between 7 and 8. Hold off until Windows 10 appears, giving yourself a few days—up to a week—to check reviews before upgrading.

It doesn't matter what you receive. Whether you land on 7 or 8, you can upgrade to 10 at no cost. For a score of 10, it's all yours. Now the reason for choosing Windows 10 is DX12. That's the end.

I'm using Windows 7 now but I'm planning to upgrade to a new computer with a new hard drive, which is a bit concerning.

Win7 is reliable, tested, and proven. Win8 seems questionable at best. Metro feels rough. Win10 appears promising—check out some videos.
