It's funny how people have different takes on the same game.

Start with some challenges. It takes time to get comfortable. After a while, you'll improve. With 1000-2000 hours you could even reach elite level if you're skilled. I highly recommend the game—it costs only 15 euros and is quite enjoyable. It's normal to pause for a few weeks. Once you're in "prime matchmaking," issues from hackers become less of a concern. After learning the basics, common areas, enemy patterns, and where to use spray and grenades, you can find helpful YouTube tutorials.

Once enjoyed, it became a source of wasted time. The desire to improve kept pulling me back, but it costs you valuable hours better spent elsewhere. Or give it a shot and let go of the routine—your choice!

I suggest waiting until it goes on sale; then you’re either happy or less regretful. The hacking has worsened even in casual situations, and overall it feels a bit less welcoming. Recently, someone from the opposing team who lost got really upset when I said GG. There are still many enjoyable players, though. It seems like a mixed bag.
