Should I get a Ryzen 3 3100?
Should I get a Ryzen 3 3100?
I am planing a PC build that I will do in December and I'm picking some parts now. However I am wondering if I should get the R3 3100 or will AMD have a chip like it in 4000 series by December? I understand that R3 3100 just came out in May but I just want to make sure there won't be a newer version of the chip or a chip like that is Zen 3. Thanks.
Hold off on the build until December if you haven't planned to launch it then. Wait for Zen 3, expected in Q3 or Q4 of this year.
Newer updates are always available. A Ryzen 3 usually arrives after an architecture release. If you're okay with the speed and cost, go for it.
For projects starting in December, it's best to purchase all parts during that month. I doubt AMD will launch Ryzen 3 CPUs with Zen 3 right away; they likely plan for a later release (similar to what happened with the 3100/3300X), but perhaps by then you'll be able to get a 3600 or the 3300X again.
A more relevant inquiry would be whether you can obtain it. I understand the 3100 was a recent announcement, and it might be outdated—possibly now available for purchase.
If you're not starting now, wait until you're prepared to build, and then ask. I'm also thinking about using the extra $20 on the 3300x. It's worth noting they don't really launch the Ryzen 3 models then. See how long it took them last time; they're available in Canada.
