I understand but Intel remains superior for gaming and 165Hz 1440p. My current setup is running at 2080p super. I’m looking for a solid CPU to match it.
The 2080 Super won't ensure 165fps in most recent titles at 1440p resolution.

Regarding processors, the Ryzen 4th generation models are still out of stock, with many predicting a release around October, though AMD hasn't confirmed. Laptop versions of the Ryzen 4th gen chips are available now.
If you're looking for strong performance, the Ryzen 7 3700X or 3800X offer good value compared to your current setup. Your existing CPU might limit performance with a mid-range graphics card like the RTX 2060 or 2080. Consider upgrading to an Intel Core i7 10700K when it becomes available, or the Ryzen 7 3700X/3800X.
From a cost perspective, choosing an Intel 9th generation processor would be the least advantageous option at present.
The best performance for CPUs comes from the RX 5700 XT and 2070 Super, though the 2080 Super might not always be worth it. I’d pick a new 1080p 144Hz IPS screen—either the ultra-thin 1ms model or the wide 1440p option—since they’re quite similar. For a 24-inch 1080p setup and a 27-inch 1440p display, the differences are minimal.
I switched from 1080p to 1440p but the speed drop isn’t really worth it. I revert games to 1080p at 144fps; with sharpening enabled, it still looks fine on a native 1440p screen.
