So my motherboard is not working properly. I need to buy a new one.
My budget for this upgrade is $900.
Current specifications: i5 6600 non k, 212 EVO, GTX 1070 Xtreme gaming.
I’m purchasing a new case – H440 blue and black.
The motherboard I’m considering is an ASUS ROG Maximus Hero IX.
At the moment I was thinking about a board with lots of upgrade options for the next three years. Maybe in three years I’ll replace it with a 7700K, add overclocking, and install another 32GB of RAM.
My question is: should I buy the 7600K, 6700K, or 7700K now? Or should I wait until I really see a performance difference?
Or perhaps I should wait until Intel’s 8th generation and switch to that?
I’ve thought about this a lot, but I still don’t have a clear answer.

I would opt for a simple motherboard like B150 or H170, avoiding any changes to the CPU. I expect significant improvements in the next 1 or 2 years.

Don't purchase a motherboard if you intend to upgrade it three years from now. Who knows what the CPU market will be like then? Choose something you'll be satisfied with for the next three years.
