It occurred during a D2R session last night with unusual static in my headphones—they stopped working. After plugging them in again, they functioned (possibly by chance). About ten minutes later, the computer displayed no alarms or errors, just a faint off-state. I tried to restart and the power button didn’t work; unplugging all power sources caused it to boot up briefly with a loud sound and smell. In the photo with my finger, it appears at the top of one of those eight square nodes next to the capacitor. I’m wondering if it’s safe to replace the motherboard or if there are other issues to check.

VRM overheated, then shut down abruptly. Hope the CPU wasn't harmed.

It seems like you're asking about whether the problem is related to overheating or a malfunctioning board. Clarify if you'd like advice on troubleshooting or further details!

It falls inside the warranty window—now is the best moment. (The board showed signs of failure while functioning normally, making a legitimate warranty request possible.)

I don't have a CPU or perform overclocking.

Ryzen 7 3800x is actually running fine without any overclocking needed. It tends to get warm, but that’s normal for this model. I’ve just placed an order for an ASUS TUF X570 Pro and an AIO cooler, hoping to avoid similar issues in the future.

It was just a defective VRM issue. A small number of cases like this, mostly due to chance. Most voltage regulators hold up until around 125c. Still, anything is possible.
