I recently changed my PC's storage from no SSD to one. However, I misplaced my Windows product key and might have forgotten it too because I tend to be a mess. I don’t want to purchase another product code, and the Activate Windows watermark is becoming annoying. Could anyone let me know if Windows will send your old product key? Thanks. EDIT: I didn’t mention that my PC is custom-built, so any changes on my motherboard aren’t linked to it.

It should connect to your motherboard and won't require any action from you.

For Windows 10, you likely don't need it. Windows 7 might be a problem.

Windows 8 and newer need no special setup; the key is saved in the UEFI. For versions prior to 7, if you misplaced the key, you've lost it.

Are you linked to your MS account? What method did you use to obtain the key?

My cousin provided me with a setup guide for the PC, but he’s missing it. I also have three PCs connected to my MS account, but I’m unsure how to locate the necessary information.

It typically triggers after logging into your account. It should also start automatically on the same mobile device without any action (needs a newer phone than 2014/15). If not, your chances are limited. You can retrieve keys using free apps like Magical Jelly Bean, but advanced recovery requires paid programs.
