Short-term bandage solution
Short-term bandage solution
So everyone here, I was eager to purchase a new GPU to boost my FPS in certain games where I wasn’t getting the performance I needed. Eventually, I grew tired of waiting and chose to upgrade my CPU from a 6700K to a 5800X in hopes it might help me overcome the intense graphics demands. While trying to gauge the performance increase from switching from a 6700K to a 5800X with a GTX 1080 at 1080p, I found it hard to get consistent results because most CPU reviews often omit older GPUs for those specific titles. Here are my FPS improvements in a few games that my 6700K struggled with—CS:GO saw a jump from 130fps to around 300 (at its limit), iRacing went from 45fps to 90fps (in VR with 30 cars), Escape from Tarkov improved from about 65 to 98 FPS, and GTA V rose from 65 to 90. Keep in mind these are just a few examples and mostly apply to games that aren’t heavily GPU-bound. Most of the time, I didn’t see much gain, except for titles that really rely on CPU power. If anyone else has a similar setup and is looking to squeeze more performance from their current PC—especially before the 2022 shortage—maybe upgrading to a 5600X or higher could be a smart short-term solution while we wait. This upgrade has significantly reduced my desire for a new GPU, letting me wait until next year with confidence. And hopefully, someone else who needs a bit more speed in a few games won’t think they need a $4000 GPU right now. Thanks.
I don’t understand how trustworthy this channel is, and they’re running tests with a 2080 Ti (and 1080 Ti for another reason), not a 1080. There are clear improvements in FPS in certain titles. They also shared a video showing performance with multiple i7 processors. Keep that in mind, but it seems to match your observations. Appreciate the update! I’ve been curious about this too (though I’m using a 3600 and a 2060, so my GPU capacity is more limited...), especially since my friend upgraded his system to a 10th gen i7 and saw solid gains in games while still running his GTX 970.
These kinds of videos push me to think about reality, since I’m unsure whether they’re fabricating stats or sharing genuine data. I wonder if they’re just adjusting figures for a boost, or if the numbers from other similar channels are actually consistent.
