Short review, 5700x versus 3900x
Short review, 5700x versus 3900x
I have the chance to pick either the Ryzen 7 5700X or the Ryzen 9 3900X, both priced the same (225 GBP). I’m unsure which one is better because the 3900X has slightly lower single-core performance and is an older chip, possibly lacking more recent software support. Any thoughts or different views would be appreciated!
Identify the specific scenario or function. The remaining components form the broader application context.
The remaining components are quite average (almost disappointing) with a 1050 rating, 2GB RAM, and 16GB of DDR4 memory. Storage options include a 250GB SATA SSD, a 1TB HDD, and a 500GB NVMe SSD. The setup is intended for simple gaming and basic AI tasks like coding. Stability is the priority—no need for high speed, just reliable performance without any lag or freezes.
AI progress would likely benefit more from a GPU such as an RTX 3070 because of its tensor cores, so don’t stress about prioritizing it over the CPU. The performance of your CPU might not be a big factor depending on the code you’re working with. I believe the 5700X with improved single-thread speed is a stronger choice. Or go for the 5600 if budget allows and you want future upgrades. Edited November 7, 2022 by Fasauceome
For gaming, the 5700X offers a slight edge over the 3700X. The 3000 series is a bit outdated, and more of those CPUs have failed. When it comes to rendering, video editing, streaming with the CPU, and archiving, the 3900X performs better thanks to its additional cores. Your motherboard and power supply unit aren't specified, which are likely the most critical factors in choosing a CPU.
Not really someone who goes for Intel, though I’m not a fanboy. Just tend to favor AMD hardware. After checking, I can’t find anything better in Intel for the same price. Both seem pretty similar in performance now. I’d choose Intel if it was the only option, but it doesn’t quite fit my needs. If you have any intel recommendations, feel free!
Check the current rates for Intel i5 12th/13th generation and B660 DDR4 motherboards in your area. Based on your budget and upgrade goals, a good value option might be a Ryzen 5 5600.
