Its present latency is varying, which could mean no issue at all.
The setting named NTT Avg (Max) appears in Valorant. I’m not sure what it does, but it displays average and maximum ping values. It updates in real time, refreshing about five times per second. Typically, the maximum ping is around 1-2ms higher and changes more often. When I plug my cable into one of my onboard cards on the motherboard, the average jumps wild from 28ms to 35ms, especially with NTT Max, ranging from 29ms to 50ms. But switching the cable between ports while the PC is running fixes the issue. However, after a full Windows reboot—whether by pressing the reset button, restarting from Windows, or cutting power—the problem returns. It performs better with an older, cheap USB-C to Ethernet adapter. RTT average sits between 28-31, and RTT max is 29-32, without worsening even after a full shutdown. I’ve enabled Fast Startup, and it works consistently every time I power on my PC.
It seems like the connection might be unstable, possibly due to a new server providing temporary better connectivity. The Ping results in the game will differ from what you'd see in a regular ping test. Unless you're aware of the specific game servers' domain, this isn't a long-term issue. I'm telling you now that 28 to 35 is within normal ranges. You might be overreacting by focusing on one or two pings. Consistent performance over time isn't typical, and if it's not affecting your gameplay, it likely isn't a problem.
The variation is genuine, I can display a chart from my previous machine where I linked the built-in Intel LAN card to my router, and on my current setup using the inexpensive 10$ adapter, it remains stable with minimal spikes (around 36-37 consistently) over the past four days.
