You need to transfer your Windows 8.1 Professional from the laptop to the desktop. Make sure you back up any important data first.
For Windows 8, removing the HDD and placing it on your desktop should resolve issues. You might attempt cloning or creating an image, as ghosting works better when transferring from HDD to SSD. With Windows 7, the system often behaves oddly because of hardware differences, possibly triggering BSODs at startup unless components are closely matched. Ultimately, you may need to format and reinstall the OS. Windows 8.1 offers better stability thanks to enterprise support and the Live feature, similar to Linux. Windows 10 appears even more reliable based on my testing.
Focus solely on relocating the Windows setup, leaving other programs untouched.
You're looking for a completely new setup. It seems you won't be able to run Windows on both PCs, but you might be able to use the original OEM software right away.
You'll need to get the installation files for the Windows version that came with your laptop. Alternatively, you can use the restore partition if available.
