I've observed my computer occasionally freezing and having trouble handling tasks it shouldn't manage well. For instance, opening Opera GX (ew) causes noticeable lag, making it frustrating to use. YouTube and Roblox work fine for a short time before stuttering again. Wallpaper engine also experiences similar issues. Grounded shows significant performance drops, with noticeable delays even after pressing W for about three seconds. I'm unsure if this is isolated or connected to earlier problems, but it's definitely worth mentioning. Overall, the desktop feels sluggish compared to expectations, though some games like Minecraft and Terraria run smoothly. It's not a major concern but has been bothersome for about a year now. The system specs are solid: 4070 PC specs, Ryzen 7 5800X, 32GB RAM, 512GB SSD, plus two NVMe drives and four HDDs (two SATA, two USB).

The event viewer shows no obvious errors or warnings. Your drivers appear current, which suggests the latest BIOS is installed. I haven’t performed a memtest yet. SSD health seems stable, and there are no data integrity issues reported. Firmware updates are in place, and power plan settings are being used as intended. It’s challenging to identify the exact issue at first.

Yeah something is clearly up, can't be just outdated drivers or bios. Remove all SATA and drives over USB. Did it help? If yes one of those is bad and you'll have to check which one it is.

Many transfers required, the chipset supports just 4 PCIe tracks, and 4 SATA ports might also limit performance

Yes, you have two drives linked through a USB connection.

It's even more problematic! What drives do you use for your games or software? Connecting files through USB, especially USB2, is extremely slow and could be causing lag or poor performance. The HDDs themselves aren't helping either.

No, hardware acceleration isn’t disabled in Opera GX. It’s designed to work smoothly for gaming and other tasks. Regarding performance, some users find it slows things down, so I keep it enabled. As for antivirus, the built-in Defender is usually sufficient; third-party tools often add overhead.

On my primary C storage, a 7GB/s, 512GB NVMe device, or my secondary A drive, a 3GB/s, 1TB NVMe unit, these solid-state drives serve as bulk file storage that is rarely accessed.

I changed to a more stable version some time back, yet during my session with gx it was quite slow—worth noting.
