Hello everyone, I’m a game developer and 3D designer who enjoys playing Warzone, Valorant, Fortnite, Black Desert Online, Rocket League. My work involves using Fusion 360 and Blender. My current setup includes an i5 8600K OC at 5 GHz, an Asus ROG Strix Z390F, a Dual GTX 1060 3GB OC at 1995 MHz, 16 GB of 3000MHz RAM, and a 650W Gold power supply. I have two monitors at 1440p and 1080p with 165Hz refresh rates. I was thinking about upgrading to an i9 9900K and an RTX 3060 Ti, but after Intel’s 12th Gen release I’m unsure if it’s better to go with the i9 9900K or stick with my current specs. Also, I’d like advice on whether the i9 9900K pairs well with an RTX 3060 Ti or if I should hold off until next year.
It comes down to your budget. Most 9900ks are too expensive, while the 12600k offers enough speed to justify spending an extra $100-200 on the CPU and motherboard instead of the 9900k. If you can buy the CPU for around $150, it’s still a solid choice with a 3060 Ti for gaming. If you have time to wait, it might be wise to consider it now, as Intel hasn’t announced cheaper B660 boards yet, allowing you to save on the motherboard.
