Hi, I just made some changes to my desktop setup—not only because it’s time for an upgrade, but also because I thought these updates would help fix the issue of games crashing. Before sharing my concerns, here’s what I have installed:

Windows 10 Pro (coming soon)
Intel I5 6500 @3.2Ghz (operates between 3.3-3.6 GHz thanks to Intel turbo)
Zotac GTX 1050 ti
Gigabyte H110M-H-CF
16GB 2133 Mhz HyperX Fury (the RAM stick is 2666 MHz, but the motherboard and processor cap it at 2133 MHz)
512 GB SSD
1TB HDD
Silverstone Strider Essentials PSU

The improvements I made were to the RAM, SSD, and power supply. As for the main issue, I encounter game crashes in CSGO, Dota 2, and Skyrim. It’s especially annoying because they happen at critical moments and disrupt my gameplay.

What bothers me most is that the crashes occur unexpectedly—either early or late in the game. For CSGO, it either freezes at a specific frame without any input, but audio and visuals still play. I have to close the program using Task Manager afterward. If I restart it, the same problem recurs, sometimes earlier or later. This has cost me a spot in competitive play since I’ve stopped playing many games due to this. Occasionally, a black screen appears if I don’t close the program and keep using alt+tab.

For Dota 2, I run it with custom video settings—everything is enabled except anti-aliasing and v-sync. I also tried limiting the frame rate to 100. The game freezes randomly, either at the start or during a crucial match, which has cost me several ranked sessions. Unlike CSGO, the music keeps playing but the game doesn’t progress normally. A faint ambient sound is played instead of the main theme.

In Skyrim, the game initially reports that my hardware isn’t detected, so it automatically uses low settings. Later, after a session, the screen freezes completely—no audio, no progress. I either have to end the program in Task Manager or it leads to a black screen.

I don’t overclock and don’t do heavy video editing on this PC. This problem is really holding me back and causes a lot of stress, especially since I’m planning to play The Witcher 3 on this machine. My graphics driver is up to date, I perform clean installs by uninstalling it first via Device Manager and then reinstalling. If anyone has any suggestions or fixes, I’d really appreciate it. Also, I’m curious about the reason behind these crashes. Thank you very much, and I hope you’re doing well!

If your screen freezes entirely, it might indicate a GPU issue. If the game is the focus, several components could be at fault, such as RAM, CPU, or PSU.

It's possible, as my 1050 Ti is already around 4 years old. The challenge is that I haven't really used it for intense gaming or video editing, since I was focused on school and only began playing here 2 years ago. The problem didn't appear at first, but it gradually became more frequent. Thanks for the advice—I'm considering upgrading the GPU, but I just feel like I haven't used it enough yet.

It appears there may be an issue with the power supply or the CPU temperature. If it's elevated, two possibilities exist: either the thermal paste is insufficient or the CPU isn't correctly connected to the motherboard.

I doubt it, even after swapping the PSU, the issue persists and it happens again each time I clean my PC. I also keep applying fresh thermal paste to the CPU, possibly from a higher-quality brand like Thermal Grizzly.
