A lot of people in the aim training community think muscle memory isn't that important and the more you practice the better you get at controlling different sensitivities. I think there's some truth to that, but I believe the best for consistency is to find a good middle ground sens for the games you play and stick with it for a while. I doubt it's very good for consistency to constantly switch between 20 and 70cm/360 for example.
I notice my mouse precision improves as my right hand and eye work get sharper, even though I don’t rely on it for gaming. For example, when switching to a graphics tablet and pen in osu, I found my control much better after about 4000 hours of practice. Using a mouse in 2019 for fun surprised me—my coordination was much stronger than before, even though I’d never touched it. It seems hand-eye coordination matters more than muscle memory, especially without prior mouse experience.
It's a personal preference. My performance improved with the new mouse, but I had to adjust my technique to get it right. In general, it depends on the game, movement smoothness, field of view, and your playing style. Whether you prefer sniping or fast-paced action, or even include mobile games and MOBA aiming, each category feels different. Fast-paced titles like Diablo or Quake contrast sharply with tactical games such as CSGO or Valorant, and even more so with arcade shooters like Fortnite.
