Several questions about AMD
AMD FX-8370E
I haven't overclocked anything for a few years and I grasp the main ideas; I also watched some refresher videos just to double-check. I had a few questions about my setup.
In my BIOS, under advanced frequency settings, I can only adjust the CPU Clock ratio, not the frequency or CPB ratio. Is that accurate? Or am I making an error because I used to be able to change both values?
I’m currently at a clock ratio of 19.00 for a total speed of 3.8 GHz.
My vCore is 1.14375.
There’s an option called "unlock CPU," but I’m not sure what it does. I tried selecting it and it doesn’t let me modify my frequency.
Notice that you're using the same chip again. You should navigate to M.I.T -> Advanced frequency settings to adjust your BCLK Clock control (CPU FSB) along with the multiplier. For voltage adjustments, head to M.I.T -> Advanced Voltage settings to modify your CPU vcore. Keep in mind that any changes to your CPU clock will only become visible after you apply them and return to the main menu.
After more investigation, it seems I'm just boosting my multiplier. Would it be okay not to change memory or North Ridge settings, just to raise my multiplier?
Increasing just the multiplier is the simplest approach, but it limits the potential you can reach. You might be able to adjust the CPU's FSB speed unless your motherboard uses a custom version from brands such as Dell or HP. The Unlock CPU feature allows access to additional cores from the X3 and possibly the X4 line, though this may not apply to your setup. Sharing your complete PC specifications would help clarify your situation.

Your idea of limiting the voltage to around 1.4000 is reasonable for maintaining stable temperatures. Whether it's high or low depends on your specific needs and environment.
This particular CPU remains functional as long as the temperature stays within 60ºC, and 65ºC is okay under stress conditions.
