I dislike the fact that it stores in MKV format and I can't make changes in Sony Vegas Pro.

Only as a FPS counter. Ignored the recording aspect.

Is it true? My file always gets saved as MP4.

Are you confident? My files are saved as MP4 using H.264 encoding. Why would it prefer MKV instead?

I operate in manual mode without pre-recording, using a hotkey to turn it on and off or save files. No noticeable slowdowns beyond 1 fps. I really enjoy shadowplay. The settings are "In game Resolution" at 60fps and 50Mbit, and all my editing tools handle the files smoothly. I’m completely thrilled!

It stored the files in MKV format for a month, then I checked and found that half were MKV while the other half were H264. Not sure if this was done during an update.

It's odd, really. I'm not sure why it saves files in H.264 format instead of the usual MP4. I think I've always saved them in MP4.

I pair the gear with OBS and it tends to be the most effective method, particularly since shadowplay can cause Premiere issues because of inconsistent frame rates.
